‘Man stabs dog’

CHRIS THOMSON

A man, 72, has been charged with animal cruelty after he allegedly stabbed a dog at the southeastern Perth suburb of Seville Grove yesterday.

Police spokeswoman Babara Crane said the elderly man was walking along Chisholm Circle with a woman and two dogs when they were approached by a medium-sized dog.

Acting Sergeant Crane said the man allegedly kicked out at the dog, and it came back at him.

The man then allegedly stabbed the dog with a knife.

The dog suffered a deep cut above the left shoulder and was taken to a veterinary clinic.

Acting Sergeant Crane said the dog was expected to survive.

The man has been charged with causing an animal unnecessary harm.

He has been bailed to appear in Armadale Magistrates Court on May 8.
