Kakulas Brothers’ $30,000 food fine

The landmark Kakulas Brothers food emporium in Northbridge has been fined $30,000 for a raft of hygiene offences under the state Food Act.

The state government’s food convictions register reveals that the City of Perth achieved the conviction on June 14.

Kakulas Brothers, at 185 William Street, is a Perth institution that has traded for many decades.

For offences detected on October 8, 2012, shop owner Rulicol Nominees Pty Ltd has been ordered to pay a $30,000 fine and $8312 in court costs.

The convictions register reveals that the shop sold unsuitable food, failed to store food in a way that protected it from the likelihood of contamination, had unclean premises and equipment, and failed to take all practicable measures to prevent pests entering the premises.
