Freaky foyer for Perth Arena

Freaky foyer for Perth Arena

CHRIS THOMSON

JANUARY 27 UPDATE: VenuesWest is set to order a curvaceous mega screen for the cavernous foyer of its long-awaited Perth Arena.

Pictured, right, the curvy LCD screen will have a double-sided display crafted from 40 flat panels on each side.

VenuesWest wants the screen to deliver video and audio to Perth Arena patrons on the ground floor and Level 1.

The arena foyer will be four levels (20 metres) high – and itself a sight to behold by patrons occupying a concourse on level 1, and for VIP patrons on levels 2 and 3.

Lest the screen short out on opening night – slated for some time between October and December – VenuesWest has insisted that a technician be on hand for a solid 10 hours to trouble shoot.

The sample artwork of the screen features a stock photo of an aghast Chris Martin from soft-rock super-group Coldplay.

Last week, oneperth.com.au revealed that VenuesWest was planning to erect an LED ‘superscreen’ the size of one-and-a-half squash courts in the arena’s main performance area.

Due to technical and project management dramas, the Perth Arena – first conceived in 2004 – has had the gestation period of a Woolly Mammoth

The 15,500-capacity sports and entertainment venue is now promised for completion by the end of 2012.
