Bushfires raged today on the northern fringe of the WA capital and threatened homes and lives in the south at Banjup and Aubin Grove.
The Fire and Emergency Services Authority tonight said lives and property were under threat in the two Cockburn suburbs before the impact of a fire there was minimised.
The blaze burning to the west of Buckingham Reserve and south of Gibbs Road in Aubin Grove is still being fought but there is no longer any immediate danger to residents.
The fire was first reported at 4.32pm and spread to suburban Aubin Grove where it is now under control.
FESA says firefighters helped protect 11 houses in the area.
Police, the City of Cockburn, 22 firefighters, two fixed wing water bombers and a helicopter attended the blaze.
The fire was first reported at 4.32pm and its cause is unknown.
BEDFORDALE BLAZE
Earlier, in the City of Armadale, a blaze between Carradine Road and Albany Highway in Bedfordale and was first reported at 12.48pm.
That fire was brought under control by 25 firefighters and a helicopter – but not before burning out 350sqm of bush. FESA says the fire was accidentally lit.
WEST SWAN INFERNO
In Perth’s north, another inferno – the cause of which is suspicious – erupted between Lord and Harrow Street in West Swan.
That fire was first reported at 1.10pm and is now under control.
FESA says firefighters are mopping up and will monitor the area for the rest of the night.
All roads in the area are now open after 24 firefighters and 12 trucks were deployed to douse the blaze. About one hectare was burnt.
