Ten towers

Ten towers

CHRIS THOMSON

The state planning department today released blueprints for 10 residential and commercial towers that give the best indication yet of how high the Perth waterfront project will rise.

According to the plans, six residential buildings from 20 to 36 storeys high will overlook the artificial lagoon that will largely be reclaimed from the existing verdant foreshore.

The largest of the envisaged buildings.

To the north of the lagoon, two of the residential towers will be flanked by three commercial ones between 33 and 37 storeys high.

From this phalanx of five skyscrapers, occupants will be able to survey 21-storey and 20-storey residential towers to the east of the lagoon.

To the lagoon’s west would stand 25-storey and 20-storey residential towers.

The smallest of the 10 buildings would be a four-storey hotel at Barrack Square, crammed between the existing Bell Tower and Lucky Shag Hotel.

The plans set aside room for the existing Perth Convention Centre to extend eastward and the Esplanade Train Station to extend southward.

A cable car ride to King’s park is also factored in – not too far from where the ill-fated wheel of Perth stood for a couple of years.

The planning department has pointed out the heights are indicative only and the ultimate scale will be determined later.

All buildings as envisaged are far lower than Perth’s tallest – Central Park on St Georges Terrace – which soars to 51 storeys.

Every building will more than likely have underground carparks.
if there is any open air carparks, then thats just stupid!

It’s finally nice to see that Perth is keeping up with modern times, updating it’s urban waterfront.

Time to move on; time to let go of some of Perth’s urban front lawn and replace it with a lagoon. Yes the lagoon is close to water (the river) but at least this will be protected and maybe people can swim in it. You can’t swim in the river.

As for cars, what about the train station, the bus station, and city’s aren’t all about cars. After all there will be car parks put into this development for sure ; just hidden in behind hopefully well designed buildings.

I agree…get over the whole car thing. There is a train station right on this development’s doorstep.

    This should be awesome.

i’m not a fan of artificial lagoons. cursory look at this seems like a lot of people and lot of cars. where will the cars be parked? how much space devoted to cars?
