RELATED UPDATE STORY: ‘WORLD FIRST’ BAR RESURRECTED

The founders of Cocktail Gastronomy – a catering firm that matches tantalising cocktails with gourmet food – has applied to open a small bar in North Perth.

Long-term chef Daniel Sterpini (left) and bartender Adam Keane aim to open the new bar near the corner of Angove and Charles Street by the end of June.

“We want it to be a surprise,” says Sterpini who does not want to give too much away until approvals are secured.

“Cocktail Gastronomy was going well and we were looking for a venue and this popped up.”

‘This’ is a defunct alternative therapy studio in a jaded row of shops at the corner of Angove and Charles Streets.

But that hasn’t deterred the two who believe their new bar can help draw the buzz of eastern Angove Street all the way down to Charles.

“It will be cuisine appropriate to the beverages we’re serving,” Sterpini says.

“But it will be a different theme that hasn’t been done before in Australia, and only once or twice in the world – but not to this extent.”

That is confirmed by ambitious renovation plans which include an area titled ‘The Classroom’.

Sterpini says the bar will be run by a manager but that he and Keane will have a hands-on role in the early days of operation.

“We’re all geared up and ready to go – we’ve just got the (regulatory) hoops to get through now,” he says.

Those hoops comprise Town of Vincent planning and building approval, and obtaining a liquor licence.

Cocktail Gastronomy burst onto the Perth catering scene in November 2009.
